Road Safety

The safety of all our children is of paramount importance to the staff and Governors of our school. Please can you help keep our children safe by parking considerately when dropping or collecting your children from school.

Junior Road Safety Officers

We are year 6 junior road safety officers: Kieran, Adam, Chloe B, Chloe P and Harvey. When we got elected, we went to the Bexley civic centre to know more about our job. Our leader is called Sally Barrett and she said we need to get more people (children and adults) aware of the dangers on the road and in the car, so we painted a Sammy seatbelt using some cardboard and paint. We took a while but in the end it turned out very well. Then we went round the school and explained that you have to be over 135cm to not have a booster seat.

We created a role play about a family showing that the kids can easily distract their parents (driver and passenger) and can cause a major accident.

We do little competitions such as word searches and lots of fun things. The first person to finish will win a prize.

We want to encourage people to be safer around the roads and stop accidents occurring around the world.

Year 3 Road Safety Training

Governors volunteer to conduct Year 3 Road Safety Training, which helps pupils to decide on safer places to cross the road and to judge what the cars and other road users are doing.  There is always a need for more volunteers to be trained to carry out this valuable work.  If you have an interest in road safety, please ask at the school office about how to volunteer. To volunteer regularly with us, you will need to have a satisfactory DBS clearance.

End of Year 2016/2017 JRSO Report

JRSO (Junior Road Safety Officers) have been amazing this year. When we were chosen, we were taken for a morning trip to the Civic Offices to meet Councillor Clarke, Sally Barrett (Safety Sally) and all of the other JRSOs in Bexley. When Sally came to meet us she set us a job to do - an assembly on Be Bright Be Seen to KS1 and KS2. We even had some fun with the children in KS1 with a fashion show using high viz jackets.

We would highly recommend being one of Hook Lane's Junior Road Safety Officers. It was an amazing opportunity to be a JRSO and make our school a better, safer place!

From your JRSO team,

Chloe B, Chloe P, Harvey J, Kieran B and Adam S :)
