About Us

Mission statement

We aim to create a secure environment where children have confidence in themselves while valuing the opinions, strengths and culture of others. We want children to develop an enquiring and flexible mind, to be motivated to tackle new challenges and to be able to learn from their mistakes without fear of ridicule or criticism. We encourage all children at Hook Lane Primary School to strive to achieve their ambitions through the use of praise, reward and by setting realistic yet challenging expectations. We want our children to have the skills necessary to contribute usefully to the wider community and become lifelong learners. We respect the support of parents in the education of their children.

The Staff and Governors aim to provide a curriculum which will prepare pupils to adjust to change and to cope with uncertainty, which is the hallmark of the modern world.
The school aims to provide an environment which will enable each child to realise its full potential across the whole spectrum of learning as detailed in the 1988 Education Reform Act and in accordance with the revised National Curriculum.
The school delivers the curriculum by:

  • emphasising the acquisition of basic academic skills vital to each child’s future educational success;
  • including Personal, Social, Moral and Health Education (PSMHE) and Citizenship to create self awareness and care for themselves and others;
  • providing suitable experience supported by appropriate resources and good teaching, to cater for various learning styles;
  • developing in each child an enquiring mind, the ability to observe carefully, to question and to be constructively critical;
  • offering equal opportunities to all children.

The School believes that children learn most effectively when:

    • a well structured progression of work is provided within a broad based curriculum;
    • children are effectively supported in their efforts to acquire basic skills;
    • a variety of strategies and experiences for learning are provided;
    • teaching interests and motivates children;
    • tasks are presented at an appropriate level;
    • children understand what is expected of them;
    • learning is supported by good quality and relevant resources;
    • children feel valued and all effort is recognised;
    • children accept that effort on their part is essential for learning to take place.
