Our approach to remote learning

At Hook Lane, we know that learning works best when school and home work together. If there were ever a need for remote learning, we would use Google Classroom as our main platform to share learning and keep in touch with families. We would take a short amount of time (usually a day or two) to make sure everything was set up and running smoothly before lessons began.

Children’s learning would be delivered in a variety of ways to keep them engaged and supported. This might include:

  • Using trusted online resources such as Reading Plus, Numbots, Oxford Owls and IXL.

  • Completing tasks set out clearly on Google Classroom.

  • Joining virtual lessons with their teacher on Google Meet, where appropriate.

We would aim to keep the curriculum as close as possible to the expectations for each child’s year group or stage of development. Children would be encouraged to engage with their learning each day, and we would keep track so that no child missed out.

Just as importantly, we would make sure children’s wellbeing was looked after. If a child wasn’t regularly joining Google Meets, we would check in at least weekly with a phone call or, if needed, a home visit. Our priority is always to ensure that children feel supported, safe, and ready to learn.

We understand that remote learning can be challenging, and we would work closely with families to provide guidance, reassurance, and practical help wherever it is needed. Together, we can make sure every child continues to thrive.
