Road Safety

The safety of all our children is of paramount importance to the staff and Governors of our school. Please can you help keep our children safe by parking considerately when dropping or collecting your children from school.

Junior Road Safety Officers

We are the Junior Road. Our job is to make sure everyone in our school is safe and that no one gets hurt on the roads around our school. In our team we have Bobby Henchliff, Lisa Chan, Adrijn Vasiljevaite, Toby Russel, Zakaria Amrouche and Carly Rackstraw. We have lots of exciting things we are going to do this year. The first is to raise awareness of looking out on the road. We went to the Civic Offices and met Sally Safety who  gave us training on how to be a JRSO. She said lots of year 5 and 6 children are hurt on the roads every year. We want to make sure no one gets hurt in our school. So we are holding an assembly to tell everyone about looking out and paying attention on the road. We are also going to run a poster competition to raise awareness of this. We have lots of other things we want to do this year such as stopping people park outside the school gates.

Year 3 Road Safety Training

Governors volunteer to conduct Year 3 Road Safety Training, which helps pupils to decide on safer places to cross the road and to judge what the cars and other road users are doing.  There is always a need for more volunteers to be trained to carry out this valuable work.  If you have an interest in road safety, please ask at the school office about how to volunteer. To volunteer regularly with us, you will need to have a satisfactory DBS clearance.

End of Year 2016/2017 JRSO Report

JRSO (Junior Road Safety Officers) have been amazing this year. When we were chosen, we were taken for a morning trip to the Civic Offices to meet Councillor Clarke, Sally Barrett (Safety Sally) and all of the other JRSOs in Bexley. When Sally came to meet us she set us a job to do - an assembly on Be Bright Be Seen to KS1 and KS2. We even had some fun with the children in KS1 with a fashion show using high viz jackets.

We would highly recommend being one of Hook Lane's Junior Road Safety Officers. It was an amazing opportunity to be a JRSO and make our school a better, safer place!
